Creative Tips: Creating a Creative Portfolio That Keeps Giving

3 QUICK TIPS

Creating a Creative Portfolio That Keeps Giving!

OK, so you have created your first map, or even you got your first feature! Fantastic! But what do you do from here? How do you begin to develop a map portfolio that keeps giving? Or you maybe even wondering - what does she mean by portfolio?

Welcome to my quick tip guide on how to create a  Fortnite Creative portfolio that keeps giving! First things first, keep in mind that what works for most does not work for all! However this guide was created in hopes to leading you in the right direction to building a portfolio that performs. Consider it a stepping stone!

Alright, Let's Get Started!

1.   DIVERSIFY

If you find that the majority of your maps are based on the same genre, then you might want to think about diversifying. Creating maps that are more varied opens up the chance for you to extend your player base. So if you have been working on an adventure map for over two months, and do not have any other maps in your line up, you might be sweating by the time the SAC period is due to reset! Especially if you don't have other maps in your portfolio that are performing. So what can you do? Diversify!

It is known that some of the best performing maps are

FFA
Boxfights
• Zonewars
• Death-runs/Parkours

That is because these maps contain an, already, intense player base that's competitive and/or love the challenge of a death-run/parkour. In addition to that you are able to bring in a large number of players per lobby/game, and the longer they stay, the more likely they are to come back.

2.   CREATE A STORYLINE

Games like Zelda or even Super Mario Bro's stand the test of time because they have a unique storyline. Fortnite Creative allows the opportunity for creators to follow in the same footsteps of creating unique and original works through the use of creative storylines.

You could start by creating an interesting storyline of your own for any game mode, whether it be Parkour, Mini Br or Adventure RPG. Or even streamline your player's experience by creating socials reflective around your storyline to post updates and more!

I also wanted to add, if you are concerned about intellectual rights of your work or storyline, that you should reach out to the Fortnite Creative Team to get more information on how that could he handled and what steps you need to take to protect your work.

3.   KEEPING YOUR MAPS UPDATED

Every few weeks we get an update that provides us with new prefabs, gallery items, weapons or even devices. You can use these updates to create news around your map and push updates to socials! Plus keeping your maps updated means a new push to Discovery making your updated map more likely to show up in the recently updated tab. This can help keep your old maps alive and players who enjoy your map more engaged!

And there you go! Those are your three quick tips to creating a map portfolio that keeps giving! Using any or all of these tips may help keep your maps producing results for you down the line. I hope it helps and if it does, please let me know!

Happy Creating!
